OC 21 INTRODUCTION TO ANTHROPOLOGY
This Web site shows a selection of the work of high school students taking the class "Introduction to Anthropology" in the program Online Courses for the 21st Century, or OC 21, sponsored by Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES and many of its component school districts. The course is an example of "blended online learning." The students, who come from all over Westchester, meet with each other and the instructor at the beginning and the end of the semester and participate in one field trip to the American Museum of Natural History. Otherwise, all communication is online.

The course debuted in the Fall of 2012 and focuses primarily on cultural anthropology. There are two levels of assignments for the course; the first is for most high school students looking for an enjoyable and engaging elective, and the second is for those who might be interested in college credit.  As an option, the course can be taken for college credit through the SUNY ALbany University High School Program.

On the left are links to pages that contain examples of student assignments.

For further information, contact the teacher, Anita Prentice, or the OC 21 Program Coordinator, Greg Brown.
